From Barriers to Assets: Culturally Responsive Therapy with Black Families

This workshop is designed to enhance understanding of culturally responsive practices with Black families. Participants will explore historical context, societal factors, and changing family dynamics influencing Black families and their mental health. The workshop will address barriers Black families face in seeking mental health services and strategies for supporting their engagement. It will also help equip therapists with skills to support Black families from intake to termination.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Discuss significant historical context and current issues impacting the mental health of Black family
- Identify strategies to engage the Black community in mental health care
- Learn key culturally responsive therapeutic practices with Black families from the intake process to termination of services

Presenters
Felicia J. Holloway, PhD, LPC-S, LMFT-S, AAMFT Supervisor, is an Assistant Professor in the COAMFTE Accredited Marriage and Family Therapy Graduate Program at Texas A&M University-Central Texas. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist-Supervisor in the state of Texas, and holds the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy Approved Supervisor designation.
